God chose Saul to be the first king of Israel despite his humble origins. He was from the tribe of Benjamin, a tiny tribe from the youngest son of Jacob. A tribe that was almost extinct as a consequence of a very terrible and violent act they were responsible for (Judges 21-121). But God gives them a chance to rehabilitate their name because God does not look at where we come from; he seeks people willing to rise to the call and bring glory to his name.
